For those who enjoy attracting songbirds to your yard or property (if you dont do this already) I highly recommend providing nesting material in addition to food and water. It is fun to see your items get picked and placed in nests each season. For the holder a simple cheap dollar store bamboo plate or a suet cage/holder can work. So can old wreaths or worn baskets. I like to place short pieces of yard, cloth, pet hair, cotton batting, wool fibers, or any twigs, tufts of grass, weeds you find. Dryer lint is not the best as when it gets wet in the nest it becomes unstable and messy, endangering the babies. Also remember that all of the fibers/string/yarn etc. should be relatively short so as not to strangle or tangle around birdy parts. Here are some examples I have seen (not my pictures) of ways to give the birds a buffet of materials that they can easily pluck free from the holder.
