For those who have been mis-reading and mis-understanding the demands Prof Ben Nwabueze led group- the National Conference is a dialogue where constituent groups of the Nigerian project will converge to jaw-jaw in a bid to negotiate the basis of our union. In every negotiation, there are entry points and exit points and concessions are made at various stages. Parties/groups make known their positions. As dialogue/negotiation progresses, their interests and needs are revealed. As it is, self-determination/secession will be the entry point of the south east at conference. This will be merely be the position and neither the need nor the interest of the south east. Beneath this position lie the interests and needs of the region which include reparation for the pogrom and civil war, regional autonomy, resource control and fiscal federalism. If there is a group in Nigeria who zealously seek the unity of Nigeria, it is the Igbo people of Nigeria.
