For those who have learned more about the Multi Material BC Recycling program and are as concerned as I am, you need to know that the Town has signed on for the program, however, according to the City Manager: To follow up on your request for more information on MMBC. The Town joined MMBC and we were able to negotiate the important provisions as recommended in our original report to Council. MMBC is tasked with communications protocol under the agreement and therefore they are doing that work. As MMBC rolls out the information we will be making it available to our citizens. Much of the information is currently in ‘draft’ stages. One of the key changes for many municipalities is the glass collection. Our citizens do not recycle glass at the curbside, therefore we will not face that issue. We have a private contractor that provides the collection service and we are working with them to implement the changes. and We are currently continuing with our existing contractor. Rates and future plans will be commence discussion at financial plan meetings-next one is March 24. This is all the information I have been able to obtain.
