For those who have received a letter from the Member from Hartley this week it is worth remembering that the Development Plan Amendment has large chunks taken directly from State Government requirements. When council first put the plan forward under government guidelines it was to gauge community opinion. I have been delighted to see the community become engaged with the proposal over the last few weeks as many reservations were included by council in the original paperwork. One of the major issues with creating far more housing along Lower North East Rd is that there is so much through traffic making it harder to cross the Rd, turn onto that road and the noise that increases in population creates. Not to mention the reliance on the 174 buses. The argument for the plan is to create vibrancy and a sense of place. My concern is how we get to this point with the positives outweighing the negatives.
