For those who havent heard about this, theres a relatively new drug called krokadil thats started turning up here in the US. I heard a pretty in-depth piece about it on KFI, and wanted to share what Ive learned. Its a kind of synthetic heroin, and got its name because of the effect it has on the skin around the injection site, which turns green and scaly... because someone is injecting themselves with kerosene and hydrochloric acid! While this stuff is far cheaper than actual heroin (about $8/hit vs. $150/hit), has a much greater high, and is far more addictive, the people using it become physically dependent on it, and if someone doesnt intervene and get them to stop within a month or two after theyve started, the damage to their body becomes irreversible and *will* lead to their death within a year, as their soft tissues putrefy and slough off, and heavy metals accumulate in the brain. This crap is being made with kerosene and hydrochloric acid, among other ingredients. It was conceived of by drug dealers in Russia, who were faced with a severely limited supply of heroin due to an effective campaign by Putins government to shut down the supply of the drug into the country. The people who came up with it dont give a damn about the people they get addicted to their product. All they care about is money. Its started making its way out of Russia, and has been found in a few cities here in the US. People sometimes are being sold this, thinking theyre getting actual heroin, while their dealers pocket the difference, because they know that even if the person dies, there are others who will take their place.
