For those who think the individuals who claim to act and speak for Boko Haram - or whatever it is - are Islamic, let me remind you that contrary to the position embraced by 99.9999% of Muslims worldwide, so-called members of BH have reputedly not been at all reticent to assassinate anyone who criticizes them, including Muslim clerics and reputedly forbid all interaction by other members with the local Muslim population. That being the case, these people, whoever the in fact are, cannot be described as Islamic anymore than the Reverend Jim Jones - made infamous by the Jonestown Massacre and his association with the CIA - can be called a Christian. It really does not matter what they have to say on the subject. Meanwhile, it is amusing that in a 2009 BBC interview, Mohammed Yusuf, then leader of the group, is reputed to have claimed that the notion of a spherical Earth is contrary to Islamic teaching and should be rejected. Apparently, he also rejected the view that rain originates from water evaporated by the sun on similar grounds.
