For those whos asked me whats happening in Thailand and why many Thais support the army which had recently staged a bloodless Coup ending months (or years) of political impasse and escalating violence----my answer is... I dont have one for you. Thailand has a long history and we also have our King which adds to its complexity. Theres no such thing as black or white. Our recent political conflicts are not between elite, the conservatives against the liberal academics and rural poors as most foreign presses term. I consider myself a super liberal (by U.S. standards), but I also love my King--that doesnt make me a conservative. And although Im probably considered an elite (by Thai standards), Im very empathetic for and identify myself with the working class. And its because of my empathy for the have-nots that I can no longer stand seeing the Shinawatras exploiting our nation, our people and our land in the disguise of democracy--which ridiculously, most western presses cannot (or do not want) see through to the facts. There are too many shades of gray for anyone to fully understand. One short sentence I can say is dont impose what you think is democracy with other nations when you dont really know what that nation has gone through. Free world leaders like Obama doesnt represent whats right. On the contrary, everything is run by and for profits under the disguise of the world democratic leader. When something goes against the plan or impair expected benefits of those world powers, the little ones will always be condemned. Read it for yourself if you are curious. And if you care enough, please share. youtu.be/6FnmTIXdFBU latimes/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-0529-thompson-thai-coup-20140529-story.html
