“For too long we have taken Violence Against Women as a women’s issue, VAW is not just a women’s issue it is a men’s issue as well” said Kamla Bhasi, Advisor of SANGAT and Coordinator of One Billion Rising at the National Consultation and Film Festival on Engaging Men and Boys for Gender Justice a short while ago. Dr Sepali Kottegoda, Executive Director of Women and Media Collective was also on the panel ‘Initiating a dialogue with the women’s movement on engaging men and boys for gender justice’ alongside Kamla Bhasin, Sumika Perera of Women’s Resource Centre, Kurunegala and Sarala Emanuel of Women’s Development Centre in Batticaloa. The film festival, Men and Boys for Gender Justice will take place this Friday and Saturday at ICES in Colombo.
