Forcing myself to watch movies again. I want to get rid of the bad stuff so I can finally watch the the good stuff. (with the huge mountain that has been collecting...might be a while) This is what I saw today. Short reviews. FOUND: A young boy (bullied at school, of course) finds out his brother is a serial killer and the director mucks up decent performances (except by the bullies) with extreme, unnecessary gore and brutality. Kudos for not being typical, but big fat demerits for being stupid, sick bastards. THE MISSING: Ron Howard directs a western drama with slight elements of fantasy. Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones are strong, but the movie is not so much scary as infuriating. Basically this is a supernatural version of THE SEARCHERS and the bad guys did not suffer enough in my opinion. Decent and interesting but not a keeper. Look for small roles by Aaron Eckhart and Val Kilmer! REST STOP DEAD AHEAD: someone decided to make a supernatural version of DUEL but did so with unbelievable laziness and stupidity. The ghost angle is confusing and the motor home people just come off as weak David Lynch character copy cats. REST STOP DONT LOOK BACK: Even more jaw-dropping insipid than the first installment, this film picks up a year after the events of the first movie where everyone died. Not really a spoiler, because the jacket cover pretty much tells you that. Once again, one of those unsatisfying, torturous slogs of none of this makes any sense. The plot involves a pick-up truck (whose ass CHRISTINE could kick) menacing porta-potties and rest stop bathrooms while a 1970s RV meanders around with strange holy rollers. (including a midget Hunchback Of Notre Dame pervert) A lanky goof is added for attempted comic relief. A soldier and his girl provide bad assery. Steve Railsback appears mumbling and dazed. Also, in regards to the last two movies: the alternate endings and deleted scenes are just tedious and idiotic. Seriously, I dont understand how anyone could find ANY enjoyment in the Rest Stop films.
