Foreign Aid: The Australian reports that the Abbott government will change the foreign aid mess that has led to $billions being handed over without Australia knowing what it is actually spent on, and who benefits. The Coalition will impose greater transparency and accountability on foreign aid under a radical restructure of the program that cuts hundreds of millions of dollars in aid spending this year, but quarantines payments to key developing nations. The government will today announce new priorities for future growth in foreign aid as it unveils a 2013-14 budget of $5.042 billion - a cut of just $100 million on 2012-13 spending, but $650m below Labors last budget forecasts. Australians are a generous people and we are very much aware of the benefits to both the receiving nations and ourselves, but its high time there was some accountability on those nations that put their hand out. Would Hanson-Young or Shorten hand over their credit card to anyone in need, without first knowing on what it was to be used for? Certainly not, so why should they criticise this policy change? Australians should ignore the left ideologues and applaud this action. It is in every nations interest.
