Foreigners, it seems, have a rather old-fashioned view of Britain. - TopicsExpress

Foreigners, it seems, have a rather old-fashioned view of Britain. Take Germans for example. They mostly think Britain is wunderbar. But for all the wrong reasons. Their image of Great Britain is largely based on school-book stories about Nessie and awful Rosamund Pilcher films. You know, where every one lives in thatched cottages and a has a couple poodles jumping around their feet. Britain might be a popular destination for school exchanges and work experience but very few young Germans actually visit GB on holiday. Just yesterday I asked a class of 15 students whod been to the UK. Only 3 had ever crossed the English Channel - and that was just to London. I dont blame them - the sun shines more in Tuscany and Torremolinos. If you want to know what modern-day Britain is REALLY like, watch this clip. You wont see a single bowler hat and umbrella - and it may just encourage you to actually go there.
