Foreigners still enjoying subsidised fuel, DAP MP complains: KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 – Foreigners are still buying subsidised fuel even as Putrajaya holds up a bloated subsidy bill to justify a price increase to petrol and diesel, a DAP lawmaker asserted today. Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said that despite a three-year old directive barring drivers of foreign-registered vehicles from filling up with RON95 and diesel, both of which went up be 20 sen yesterday, only a handful of cases have been dealt with. “[According] to the written answer that I have received from the Parliament, two years after the implementation of the aforesaid policy until mid of 2012, there were only six petrol stations where action was taken,” she said in a statement today. “It is clear that the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism has failed to enforce the aforesaid ban policy. Throughout the country especially in Johor, foreign-registered vehicles are still purchasing the RON95 petrol without any action taken.” In 2010, the ministry issued an order to all fuel kiosks to prevent vehicles with foreign registrations from filling up with subsidised fuel. Despite her complaint, however, Teo did not provide any data to show whether the practice was widespread. Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced the increase of the price of RON95 petrol and diesel by 20 sen per litre, raising their prices to RM2.10 and RM2.00 respectively. Najib said the subsidy cuts will save the government RM1.1 billion this year and possibly RM3.3 billion in 2014 should oil prices remain stable. dlvr.it/3vhXFq
