Forest Service closes Baldy Creek trail, portion of Forest Road 7335 due to wildfires in Mount Ireland area: A local Type 3 Interagency Team, under Incident Commander Trevor Lewis, has been assigned to the Mt. Ireland Complex, which encompasses several fires in the Mount Ireland/North Fork John Day Wilderness area. For the most part, the fires in the Mount Ireland area are in the Baldy Creek drainage north in the North Fork John Day Wilderness. At this time, the largest fire in the complex is approximately 10-15 acres in size. The following road and trails closures have been implemented immediately: * Trail #1063/1603A from Baldy Creek Trailhead and from Baldy Lake Trailhead is closed from both trailheads. * Forest Service Road (FSR) 7335 from the junction with FSR 7340 east is closed. In addition, there are several fires that have been reported outside the Mount Ireland Complex and the Forest is working on staffing and initial attack. Three to four fires have also been detected on the ridgeline above Hells Canyon Reservoir on the Oregon side and local initial attack resources have been deployed, with air attack (SEATs and helicopters) conducting retardant and water drops. Several other fires of one acre or less have been staffed with good progress on initial attack. Fire crews will monitor these fires. The Forest anticipates additional fire starts from the lightning storms over the last 1-3 days; and increasing potential for additional fires as well from the forecasted thunderstorms to our region.
