Forget Zubin Mehta, Kashmir will host its own music show Srinagar: Civil Society groups in Kashmir are planning to hold a parallel event against Zubin Mehta’s musical concert here on September 7. They say Mehta’s “Ehsaas e Kashmir” is aimed at obfuscating the ground realities of the valley while their event titled “Haqeeqat e Kashmir” will project the ‘Haqeeqat’ or the real picture. “There will be a huge presence of foreign media and this is the best way to show them the true picture in Kashmir,” Khurram Parvez, Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies told officials here. Many local artistes have been contacted for performing at the event, planned to be held at the Municipal Park in Srinagar. The artistes will include local singers – both Kashmiri and English rap – besides photographers who have captured the situation in the valley for the past two decades. “This will show the world our real pain, that Zubin Mehta’s concert is trying to overshadow,” Mr Parvez said. The Zubin Mehta show in Kashmiris being sponsored by the German Embassy in India. Senior separatist, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has urged Germany to reconsider hosting the show “to show sympathy with the martyr’s of Kashmir, their widows, their orphans and those who are languishing in jails.” Authorities have said the concert of Mumbai-born star international conductor at the famous Shalimar Garden is on, despite repeated pleas for its cancellation from many quarters, including civil society groups. However it is not clear if they will allow the parallel event.
