Former Benzie Bus director thanks community Posted by BCRP Staff on March 4th, 2014 To the Record Patriot: Over the past few months Randy and I have received many wonderful notes of support, and encouraging words. There have been so many that we want to publicly thank all of you for your kindness, support and encouragement. It was truly our privilege to live in Benzie County. During our combined 38 years in school transportation, we thank you for trusting us with your children and for the joy they brought to our lives. As an EMT, it was my honor to assist many of you during some of your most difficult times. It was a privilege to sing and play the piano for my church, the school, many of your weddings and sadly, many funerals. To be part of an amazing brotherhood called “The Diggers” and a resort owner on Little Platte, our lives in Benzie County were enriched beyond measure. I have accepted a position working for the State of Colorado as a transportation analyst. I am working at a state and national level overseeing pupil transportation compliance, legislation and training. The greatest blessing of all is that we now play an active role in our children and our three grandchildren’s lives that live in Denver, and Becky is now a frequent flier. We love it here and certainly do not miss all the snow. It was our privilege to help create and work at the Benzie Bus. Although former disgruntled employees and certain board members, through less than honorable means, were convinced that it was “in the best interest of the Benzie Bus” to not renew my contract, they were never able to break my spirit or rock my faith. I have a clear conscious before my family and my God knowing with absolute certainty that I conducted company business with the highest of ethical and legal standards. I have absolutely no regrets. When I left, in September, the Benzie Bus was financially stable and the enormous success recognized statewide under my leadership speaks for itself. The Benzie Bus employees are truly amazing. We wish them and their families all the very best. We miss you all very much, but we had a ton of laughs, and many great memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. Our prayer is that the community will continue to monitor individuals who have been selected to represent and serve them. These people should be held accountable to uphold the desires of the people, not their own personal agendas. They should conduct business legally, with undisputed integrity and complete transparency, not just preaching it, but doing it. Although we have moved on to new and exciting things, we will always have a close connection to Benzie County and plan to visit regularly. Thank you so much for providing a wonderful place to raise our children and for allowing us to be a part of your lives. We are honored and eternally grateful. Susan M. Miller Denver
