Former Kitwe Mayor Arrested for Defilement Former Kitwe Mayor Divo Katete has been arrested in Kitwe for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl. Divo Katete, who is also the Nkana Constituency MMD losing candidate, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at the Kitwe Central Police. Police Sources have confirmed that Katete who arrived at the police station around 15:00hrs after being summoned by Police was arrested upon arrival with no interrogations. It believed that the matter was reported in Mufulira district and Kitwe Police had received a notice that Katete be arrested upon arrive but will be interrogated in Mufulira once transferred. Yes we have arrested him, as you know this matter is before Mufulira Central Police ours was just to lock him up no questions at all, he will be interogated in Mufulira once officers come to pick him up” a Police Source tells Zambia Reports. The Former Kitwe who came with his wife, Relatives and a lawyer was hoping to be intterogated but it was to his shock that no interviews where entertained. It is believed that Katete in 2012 did defile the girl who was then 13 and has just turned 15 years old. The allegations states that Katete therefore decided to step on the matter by promising to settle the family financially and bury the case but the former Kitwe mayor did not do so until now when the family decided to take the matter to the police after discovering that the young was actually infected with syphillis. Katete is likely to face a sentence of not less than 18 years if proven guilty and this dented his political career. The defiled young girl is believed to be a family relative who he was taking care off but allegedly ended up defiling her.
