Fort Bragg, N.C., and red-cockaded woodpecker co-exist comfortably after shift in conservation attitudes -- Today, the #Army and the woodpecker live together comfortably at the post, officials said. We want the same habitat, said Jacqueline Britcher, chief of the Endangered Species Branch at Fort Bragg. This is wonderful training habitat. And this is wonderful woodpecker habitat. Britcher said #USArmy #Soldiers and #woodpeckers live in harmony now. Most of the #training restrictions that were once placed around woodpecker habitats have been lifted, she said. And the woodpecker recovery has been a glowing success, Britcher said, with Fort Bragg now claiming itself home to the worlds second-largest population of the endangered birds. | The Fayetteville Observer #news: fayobserver/news/local/fort-bragg-and-red-cockaded-woodpecker-co-exist-comfortably-after/article_0c570329-0049-5543-a074-f8ec55604454.html?mode=story | #ArmyStrong, #Stewardship, #Conservation, #Birds, #FortBragg
