Fort Jackson Family Field Day October is national archaeology month and you are invited to attend Fort Jackson’s first annual Family Field Day on Saturday, October 19th at Twin Lakes Recreation Area located on Fort Jackson, SC. From 10:00 to 2:00 we will have a public archaeological excavation in progress, artifact processing and displays, period exhibitors, a book vendor, kid’s activities, and more! A light lunch will be available for purchase. Bring your mystery artifacts along and have them identified by a professional archaeologist on site! From 2:30 to 4:00 join us for an out and back 8 mile mountain bike ride on a section of the Palmetto Trail from Twin Lakes to Wildcat Road. We’ll set out from and return to the Twin Lakes Recreation Area so bring your bikes along as well as a helmet for each rider. Mountain bike rentals are available to military ID card holders and their guests at Marion Street Station located on Semmes Road. Light refreshments will be provided at the turnaround location on Wildcat Road. Directions: Use the main gate (Forest Drive) off of I-77, and bring an ID for all participants over 18.
