Fort Wayne Youtheatre and Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation were nominated for Outstanding Arts Collaboration. Parks Director, Alan Moll had this to say about their collaboration: In the beginning, Ms. Leslie Hormann and the Youtheatre came to our youth centers to do after school activities. As this relationship quickly evolved into an amazing partnership, she helped our youth analyze a story, brainstorm about ways it could be presented onstage, and taught them all the details of stagecraft. She taught our children much more than putting on a production -she also helped them develop poise, better diction, and self-esteem through dramatic instruction . . . awakening enthusiasm for beauty in art and integrityof dramatic literature. These words were taken from the original intent for Youtheatre in the 1930s, and speak more true today than ever! As a result, our youth have created wonderful public performances, including the inaugural production at the Blackbox Theatre. Most recently, our youth experienced creating the People Could Fly with Ms. Hormann, an amazingly deep and thought-provoking piece combining an African folktale and truths about humanity. Thanks to Fort Wayne Youtheatre, we have a well-established theatre, dance, and poetry component to each of our four youth centers that continues to grow and are enthusiastically embraced by our young people.
