Forty years ago, today, this lovely young woman made me a mother. At the time, I had no real clue what that meant beyond changing diapers, and cute pink dresses. She was always very bright and curious, and I struggled to keep up with her. At age 40, she multitasks amazingly well, and has raised her 3 girls almost singlehandedly. At age five, she found my sanitary pads and asked what they were. I struggled to find an answer and went into a biology lesson (TMI). She listened intently and then said, Thanks, Mom. Can you tell me this again when I can understand what youre talking about?. Instinctively, she knows what to tell her 3 girls, and they are wonderful young people. I am so proud of the woman shes become. She has taught me that the word mother is less of a noun and more of a verb, and I thank her.
