Forty years ago two teenagers looked at each other and said Lets spend the rest of our lives together! So we did. We have. We traded cheap rings and naive promises at the courthouse when I was nineteen and she was seventeen. Oh my. Thats a statement, not a recommendation. We were clueless. No matter. We were in love. We have lurched, learned and created a life through forty mostly wonderful years, as some friends have so aptly described their marriage. Army. Schools. Degrees. Hospitals. Moves. Ministries. Continents. Kids. Grandkids. Christmas mornings with little ones in PJs. Birthdays and swimming pools.Graduations, marriages and funerals along the way. Joy and grief. Laughter and sorrow. Health and sickness. Youthfulness and now age. God has been good to us. I have often said you can put that on my gravestone. He really has been. I cannot imagine life apart from this woman. It is the only life I have known, the only life I can remember. Gods lifelong gift to me. My Inge. Married: Aug 19,1974
