Forty years of sermons. Never heard it before. Seriously. It was supernatural. If you were there you know. The message this morning was “Jesus Walks Through Ferguson.” To hear a white pastor in a multi-ethnic context (or in any context, for that matter) address powerfully, biblically, boldly and courageously both the hot button issue of racism in America and the present, contemporary swirling vortex of Ferguson…well, I just have never seen it. It was informed, compelling, humble, reflective; convicting, bold, abrasive and redemptive. Exactly what it should have been. Fifty years ago in “Letter from A Birmingham Jail,” the lament of Dr. King was that white pastors sat on their hands instead of leading their congregations in responding to the justice issues of the day. Not the case here. Profoundly grateful for colleagues in the ministry like Jason Janz who lead. Regardless. #whyGodbroughtustoDenver
