Found a sushi oasis while apartment hunting in 불광동. 15k won for some healthy chunks of fresh fish over well-made sushi rice. Everything was the proper temp and most, if not all of it came from the fish tank outside. Especially notable was the yellowtail. The owners came over and explained what each fish was and how to properly eat sushi. Such instruction from restaurant staff in korea usually grates on me but what they were saying was dead on. Their correctness out and passion for sushi is refreshing especially in comparison to how a lot of restaurants in Seoul treat the craft. Keep in mind, however, this is a 초밥 place so there is no ala carte ordering, only options for the 생선초밥 (above) and a 초밥 정식 (20k won). The place also has some other seafood stew kinda dishes but raw fish is obviously the focus. Apparently the weekday 생선초밥 is 10k won for 8 pieces. Being up in 불광,this may be a haul for most, but itd be well-worth it for any long-suffering sushi lover who doesnt wanna drop 70k won at a more fashionable place. Out of 볼광역 exit 2. Make a u-turn and hang your first right. Walk straight down a well-populated food alley. Itll be in your right with a big 방어회 sign and some gnarly vintage fish sketches. If you reach the dead end with the 보신탕 spot, youve gone too far.
