Found one of our 5 month old chickens hiding in a corner under the - TopicsExpress

Found one of our 5 month old chickens hiding in a corner under the bushes by our porch. Her 2 guinea siblings (raised with her) were making a ruckus beside her & seemed to be trying to get her out. So we pulled her out. Her back is featherless, scratched, sore & she is missing all the feathers on the inside of her wing like something ripped them out. Sent hubby to TSC to pick up some of that spray that coats wounds so the other hens dont pick at her. What Im trying to figure out is the guinea behavior & what happened. The guineas didnt seem to bother her after her doctoring session. They did try to keep herding her back to the rest of the chicken flock that was free ranging. She is eating - drinking fine but hides as soon as you put her down & the guineas were in freak mode until we got all the chickens back in their pen. Now that everyone is penned, they are calm & doing their singing chatter. Could the guineas have injured her or seen what did? What kind of animal would cause that type of injury? No puncture wounds that I could find & no trail of feathers like hawks or dogs did when we lost some a few years ago. No dogs loose or around & the stray feral cat only comes up at night if then & has never bothered any of the chickens. It was pouring rain for about an hour in the middle of the day & had just let up right before we found her. Possum? Raccoon? Ideas?
