Found some old pictures of a mission I was on to Lhasa Tibet, and Beijing China (dont recall what year in the mid 80’s). Lhasa Tibet Gonggar Airport elevation was 11,713, so we had to block the O2 Mask drop down sensor, and landed with our O2 masks on. Some of us used walk around bottles on the airfield until we got acclimated to the altitude. We downloaded the Helicopter in Lhasa Tibet, along with the US Mountain Climbing Team (The Wyoming Cowboys) who were going to climb Mount Everest. We RON at a Holiday Inn of all places in Lhasa, and the rooms had O2 bottles next to the bed. The US Ambassador for Tibet held a big dinner that night for the crew and Boeing Reps. The next day we took off to Beijing and left the Boeing Reps to fly high Altitude tests with the Tibetan Air Force. We RON in Beijing China for about a week in which the US Embassy there assigned us an attaché to take us on tours all around Beijing China and the Great Wall. We would ditch the attaché at night and hit up some hotel night clubs where US and European Embassy personnel hung out. Im having trouble on who was all on the crew other than Wet Willy the SMSgt. Loadmaster and a Flight Doc…..maybe some of you can help me fill in the blanks…
