Found this email from Sarah from about this time in 2009 Hello all! It is Sarah. I thought even though I lost my hair, I might keep my eyebrows and eyelashes. However, Im down to just one eyelash on the bottom of my right eye and about three or four on the left. Now, I wish I could tell you that I have been industrious during my down time recording, perhaps even blogging, my cancer experience. Unfortunately, I have just been in bed near the trash can. What I have learned is that many things can make me, and probably you, nauseated: Chemo (of, course!), dehydration, and urinary tract infections. Anemia and dehydration will make you feel faint when you stand up and like you heart will explode when you walk. Nupagin shots to stimulate white blood cell growth will make you feel as though you have the worst case of the flu, and St Joes Emergency room on a Friday night is a fascinating place. Your patience wanes. (Randy and I have switched in this category) Your hearing lessens which may or may not come back. Another thing I learned, beginning in the hospital, is that one bad aspect of this disease is the loneliness that often accompanies the patient. I have never experienced this, in fact, I felt guilty with my constant stream of visitors and flower arrangements while I was in the hospital. As I would walk the halls dragging my IV pole and look into the rooms, there would just be the patient with no flowers and no visitors. The same thing at chemo. Because of you, I have never experienced that loneliness. One thing I do feel bad about is that I have not thanked each of you properly. So, this is a precursory thank you all for your help and concern, for the dinners, house cleaning and school tuition, pick ups and drop offs, laundry, birthday wishes, school lunches and soup, cookies and picture, hats, and books, play dates, and donations. Please dont think the lack of thank you cards means we do not appreciate your generosity. In fact there is no way I/we could not have made it through this process. It was more a lack of energy. My chemo nurse said it would be another six months before it back. I did have a blood transfusion last week, and that has really helped. My blood levels are going back up. I can walk without sitting down every few steps. I am learning to live with soy since the dairy makes me, yes you guessed it -- nauseated. I hope this all fits in the box. Ill talk to you soon. Love, Sarah
