Four former San Quentin inmates are on track to run the Dipsea, the nations oldest footrace. While incarcerated, the men were members of the prisons 1,000 Mile Running Club, which teaches inmates about patience and goal-setting, while at the same time emphasizing physical fitness. The volunteer-run program is funded through donations. Two of the men preparing to run the grueling 7.4-mile course in Mill Valley are now employed as a substance abuse and domestic violence counselor and construction worker.
