Four simple reasons why the 2013-2014 Los Angeles Lakers WILL NOT - TopicsExpress

Four simple reasons why the 2013-2014 Los Angeles Lakers WILL NOT MAKE the playoffs (for the fifth time in franchise history): 1. Mike D’Antoni D’Antoni’s run-and-gun did not work for the Lakers last year and will certainly not work for the even slower Lakers this year. Not many players (including Kobe) are too fond of D’Antoni in the locker room either. Assuming he sicks around all year, expect some experimental coaching changes. 2. Roster I don’t think there is a question that the Lakers will put up a worse record this year than last year. As annoying as Dwight was last year, he put up 17 PPG, led the NBA in rebounding at 12.4 RPG, PLUS brought a defensive presence down low that Pau Gasol, and may I say Chris Kaman or Robert Sacre, cannot/ do not provide. Further, the Lakers lost Metta World Peace, and Steve Nash and the rest of the aging roster is just a year older. Let’s also not forget that Gasol (49 games) and Nash (50 games) will be returning from injuries which kept them out good portions of last season. It is unclear how they’ll hold up this season. 3. Kobe Bryant Rule #1 in life is NEVER to count out Kobe. However, have we ever seen a 17-year veteran return from a season-ending injury just as good as before he went down? I know Kobe will put points on the board, but I don’t realistically see Kobe surpassing his production from last season. Last season Kobe looked the best he had in years, and still, the Lakers did not even secure a playoff spot UNTIL THE LAST GAME OF THE SEASON. 4. Competition Like many Western Conference teams, if they would play in the East, the Lakers would be a playoff team. Too bad they play out west. There will be six teams that will definitely finish ahead of the Lakers: OKC Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, LA Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, GS Warriors, Houston Rockets. That leaves the seventh and eighth seeds available for two of the following teams: Nuggets, Jazz, Pelicans, Mavericks, T-Blazers, T-Wolves, and of course the Lakers. In order for the Lakers to make the playoffs, they will have to finish ahead of four out of the above six teams. I’m not sure they could pull that off especially with the inferior roster. Conclusion: No disrespect to the Lakers’ franchise because I know it is the most successful franchise in NBA history, but the truth is that this coming year the Lakers just won’t make the playoffs. Bring it Lakers fans, I aint scared. #JB24 via. NBA Fever
