Four summers ago, I was at a convention for wellness and fitness professionals called Atlanta Mania and I had a two hour conversation with a guy who was telling me abt a DVD that he was working on. I had never seen this guy before but to hear his struggle was intriguing and I entertained the conversation. He talked a lot with his hands and he was just telling me abt the uphill battle he had with the black fitness industry and how it was so hard to fit in that he decided , maybe it was time he stopped trying. He talked abt creating a way for black fitness pros to get into the industry easier and allow the world to see us in the world of group fitness that would open more doors for the future. One thing that stuck with me in particular was something he said : You know... Its like, the more I grow, the more I advance, the harder the battles. But I realize, The more time I spend fighting every battle and putting out every flame, the less energy I use into developing myself and bettering my work. Im my own brand... You know? Im my biggest representation. I appreciate Shaun T for that conversation. And I understand it more and more everyday.
