Four years ago, I was struggling to sleep. Having what I thought were Braxton Hicks contractions, thinking about what I was going to do with all of your new things. You scared us at 32 weeks when we thought you were coming into the world super early. You made carrying you for the next 5 weeks that much more difficult and uncomfortable. I was sleeping on the couch with Fred every night and I swear that is why you two have such a tight bond. On this night, four years ago, Fred and I were laying in similar spots that we are now only he was very strange. He kept getting up and pacing, waking me up by standing next to me and staring in my face... honestly, I was a little freaked out that he was about to go all Cujo on me but I know now he knew you were ready to make your entrance. At 5:30 a.m., I thought I peed my pants. Embarassed, I changed and went back to sleep... only to realize 15 minutes later that was not pee. Showered... Fred woke daddy and we started packing our bag (Yup... not prepared at all... I just started maternity leave 2 days prior. I thought I had 4 weeks). And then I waited until 7:30 to call the doctor because I refused to be that freak out mother. I did not want to call too early. Apparently, my relaxed OB felt the same way, it was probably just a little scare... nope! You were ready but decided to sit tight for another 11 hours when our lives changed forever. Four years later and we are so blessed to have you and love seeing you grow. You are incredible. Beautiful. So very smart. Crazy. Creative. Loving. Caring. A SPITFIRE. Funny. Silly. An amazing big sister. I still dont know what Im doing as a parent but I can only hope I am helping shape your amazing self into an amazing person. I cannot believe you are 4 already... where has the time gone? Just yesterday, I was picking out pick layettes and tonight I was picking out Barbies.
