Fraggle Rocks Adventure Walk, 12/27/13 Hi Rebecca, Pig - TopicsExpress

Fraggle Rocks Adventure Walk, 12/27/13 Hi Rebecca, Pig Kahuna was not available but waiting eagerly in his place and clearly looking forward to a hike was Fraggle Rock. Fraggle was bouncing around quite a lot when I put him on the lead and continued to happily bounce about as we walked to the car. When I opened the door he was right in and I could see he was going to be a busy co pilot so I tied him on in the back and we headed to the James River park. He began his hike near Reedy creek starting out with some leash drills in the hopes of slowing him down a little bit. Fraggle is a very energetic Lab mix and if any dog ever needed a vigorous outing in the park it is him. We headed down the trail at a good pace with Fraggle doing his best to make sure nothing of interest was going to get past his nose, jumping form side to side or surging ahead, he was a busy dog! We tried out jogging and running along the trail and that did the trick, he liked a fast pace! He would drop easily to my side and run along with me up and down the hills being surprisingly good on the lead. With the quick pace and continued leash work Fraggle did show that he was capable of walking nicely on the lead. From Reedy creek he followed the Buttermilk trail to the Nickel bridge then down to the river. The first thing he did was have a good drink of water and then given some loose lead had a fun time running all over the beach checking out the grass and rocks, running after sticks that I threw for him or going back to the water for another drink. He moved on up the path a little and visited another beach where he jumped on the rocks and dug in the sand. The next stop he got an extra burst of energy and ran around on the end of the 12 feet of lead that I had given him taking me with him a little bit as he raced by. He had some fun jumping over a log, at first he just climbed it up one side then down the other but after a few tries he was flying off of it into the air! After that it was back to some more serious walking and practicing being good on the lead heading back towards Reedy creek then more time on the Buttermilk jogging. Fraggle is a happy dog, he spent almost his whole hike with a big smile on his face and his enthusiasm for running and exploring was evident throughout his adventures. Ive adopted a couple dogs like Fraggle over the years, their endless energy can present endless challenges for the owner. They need daily long walks and places to run and play, a ball to fetch or an active family to keep pace with. Obedience training lets a dog know what we expect of them and gives them a way to exercise their brains which helps calm them and finally routines help the dog feel secure and know what to expect in life. Fraggle is a smart dog, cute too(!!!) and would love to learn new things and be able to explore, he would love to find someone who would take him for regular hikes in the park, teach him to swim and jump from rocks or chase after a ball or Frisbee. And at the end of the day, Fraggle would love to stretch out on his dog bed or share the sofa with someone and dream about running and running and running. Thank you so much for sponsoring a dog for a Holiday walk, Fraggle had a great time!! He is available with Richmond Animal Care and Control.
