Francesca Josephine for #RescueStories That Saturday a few weeks - TopicsExpress

Francesca Josephine for #RescueStories That Saturday a few weeks ago I went there just to look at her. After all, I had two Akitas of my own at home as well as a fearless seven pound three-legged poodle mix, all rescued from the city shelter where I volunteer. I certainly was not looking to add to my pack. But I seem to be drawn to special needs’ dogs and since my 16 year old hospice boy had passed away at the end of January, well, I guess I knew I had a vacancy. And if anyone was in need, it seemed to be this young girl. She had been brought to a rural shelter as a stray, having problems with her legs and trouble standing. I feared she might be at risk when I read that she’d been checked by a vet then listed as having neurological problems and mental issues. I contacted Big East Akita Rescue (BEAR) and they came to the rescue. BEAR said they would take her so my intent when I drove to the shelter was to evaluate her for BEAR. Guess how that went? She was in my car when I left. As I drove my foster girl home I could not help but wonder how this was going to work. Waiting at home was my huge male Akita who had separation issues which had deemed him unadoptable, my female Akita who’d been slated for euthanasia but, with the help of BEAR, in February had undergone surgery for patellar luxation and cruciate ligament tear while in my care and let’s not forget my very jealous wee Beanie who had leg-to-hip amputation last July. Looking at it that way, she’d fit right in! And indeed she has. This special little girl who has been diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasia is perfect to me in every way. What someone else considered damaged goods I consider as a perfect blessing and a gift. Thank you INSTINCT for the opportunity to tell Francesca Josephines story.
