Frank Waln, an amazing inspiration to Native youth in the 21st century. This video reminds me of two important topics: my mother who made it possible to raise me and my siblings the best she could in her situation (thank you so much, mami) and the perspective of the little child in this video. Although I come from a different part of the Americas, my Community in South Ameirca is under an intense cultural process where 83 Comunas collectively work together and disagree with each other what makes our identity a Huancavilca Nation. A process that definitely clashes with the colonized mind of some Native youth in my Comuna while others begin to wear traditional clothes or resurrect traditional carpentry techniques. Since we are under pressure by external political forces, some Comuneros see it to their advantage to deny Indigenous identity to escape discrimination, while others admit their heritage and are not ashamed. Like the child, I see these changes when I visit my Comunas, and I get inspired that our Huancavilca identity will one day become strong with our scattered stories into one Communal understanding of our past, tradition, language, dance rituals, and cosmovision.
