Franklin, the Komenda sugar factory isnt something we must - TopicsExpress

Franklin, the Komenda sugar factory isnt something we must down-play at all,we have other areas to tackle as we embark on our industrial revolution but I think, looking at the damage we have collectively inflicted opon our industrial base and the shift of the peoples psyche from such meaningful development to mere shopkeeping and other menial jobs,we need a leadership determined to move the people into the Industralization zone but with steady progression.Today, admittedly, many of our youngmen are employed in about three-quarters of a million shops, gradually,we are becoming a nation of town dwellers, people no longer want to live on the land, but live by manufacture and trade and have to buy what the want in shops. You touched on the Pwalugu Tomato factory,we all wish the factory operates at its maximum capacity and government through the former Trade Minister Haruna Iddrisu announced a 1million ghc fund to revamp the Northern Star Tomato at Pwalugu in Telensi District of the upper East Region. The initiative is still going through the necessary formalities to avoid repetition of past mistakes. In 2006,the the government rehabilitated the factory only to leave it non-operational until around 2009.Misunderstanding between tomato farmers and Ghana tomato traders is one of several issues we must try to streamline to give the sector, that needed support. The President has on several occasions hammered on the need to make the factory fully operational to reduce tomato importation from outside. The government is also supporting the sheanut and cashew industry to take off with a minimum of 5million ghc,the target is increasing sheanut trees to 1000 and a targeted increase in tree seedlings to 2000 by 2016.What we must understand per our contemporary industrial dynamics is that,it isnt prudent for government to wholly-own factories, government may have a figure per centum of the capital on the commencement of such factories or enterprises or the state can also acquire specified capital shares in enterprises providing basic necessities with higher employed capital. We must be looking at all these factors in making our arguments than confusing ourselves with sophisticated ideas. The psyche of the people to embrace this reconstruction idea must be our priority with this, the reconstruction of the peoples mental chemistry is very important. The state may be acting steadily in the reconstruction agenda which may contradict the wish of those who expect or want vigrous approach to the issue but,we all know how important it has become for governments across the globe,to adopt the PPP idea and with that,it is always proper the state finds reliable and solid partners to enter into business with. The YES fund is one initiative we must all support government to effectively implement we cant always stand aloof for mistakes to be committed only to make them political songs and rhythms, holding government accountable doesnt means running down government rather,it must be constant monitoring of the system through offering of prudent alternative ideas to move the wheel, waiting for mistakes to ne committed to suit ones political convenience wouldnt support the growth we all envisage. We must look at the foreign exchange which goes into important of sugar into the country and the overall effect of sugar on the economy, factor in its immediate relevance vis a vis other sectors you mentioned, proximity of alternatives and the comparative advantages.Though Pwalugu has not yet come to fulll operation,at least farmers there and the factory at its present state are supporting the system but ask yourself,do we have same for our sugar? Franklin I will post to you DECREES promulgated by the Acheampong regime
