Franks photo tips: Watch video first. This is what your model experiences when you shoot with the sun to your back, their face. Photographer says to model,ok close your eyes and when i count to 3 open your eyes really wide (whilst looking at the direction of the sun) so i can get a well lit shot of those eyes Ok folks its been a while but im always looking out for helpful tips. I learned a while back when i first started photography, to use the above technique. The premise of this technique is to give your subject the opportunity to relax their eyes while in direct sunlight. Then when you -the photog- is ready to take the shot; you count to 3 and tell them to open their eyes. Well this is bad practice. Your subject be they TFP model or client should be as comfortable in a shoot as possible. First of all your subject should not be looking at the sun but rather have the same to their back. Besides if you do this, sometimes your subject has dark zombie eyes. Sunken dark holes where those big blue, brown or hazels should be. If you have no shade or a method to diffuse the light have them place their back to the sun and use a reflector to fill light back in. You can use a 5 in 1 reflector made for photography or use your cars reflector on the silver side. It works trust me. Now you have nice fill light your subject gets to keep their vision and you added a nice rim light to your shot. Part of us being good photographers is how to DIY when needed. Look around, you might have something very useful in your trunk or back seat to help take some great shots.
