Jackson 2013 marks the 34rd anniversary of Black August, first organized to honor our fallen freedom fighters, George and Jonathan Jackson, James McClain, William Christmas, Khatari Gaulden, and sole survivor of the August 7, 1970 Courthouse Slave Rebellion, Ruchell Cinque Magee. We know Assata Shakur, George, Jonathan Jackson, and Ruchell Magee, who, having survived the Marin Courthouse Rebellion of Aug. 7, 1970, has been punished ever since and is now in his 49th year in prison. We celebrate Black August, commemorating the anniversary of George Jackson’s death while understanding his life as a revolutionary in a long and unbroken line of resistance and sacrifice of Black people throughout history.
