Fremont, Nebraska will introduce a new permit program for housing in an effort to find its undocumented immigrants. The program requires applicants to complete a form before moving into an apartment or home. They - Supply basic information - Swear to legal permission to be in the country - Receive a permit automatically The city will then submit their information to a federal database for review. If a resident is not legal, the police will get involved, and the landlord could be fined $100. Many opponents expect the city to face expensive legal battles in court, which has happened in other cities that tried similar programs.
