We may never have been able to have this conscience interlude had it not been for a French naturalist explorer, Henry Mouhot, who in 1860 stumbled over a stone Buddha and looked up to see the sun shining on the towers of Angkor Wat rising above the trees. Later he wrote of his astonishment: To obtain any idea of this splendor, one must imagine the most beautfiul creations of architecture transported to the depths of the forest in one of the most remote countries of the world. AMAZING IS NOT IT!
