Frentors What friends do you have who are frentors—those people who help, support, encourage and are a positive force for you in moving toward and accomplishing your purpose or big goal? Jim Rohn would call these your associations. Identify the positive ones, the frentors, and figure out how to spend more time with them and less time with other types of friends, maybe those we can call frenemies. Frenemies are friends but are discouraging or less than supportive. They are in fact an enemy to your vision or goal. Start spending less time with them. Mentors These don’t have to be people you meet with or talk to in real time on a regular basis; they can be people you just learn from. They can be alive or even dead. The library, Barnes and Noble, the SUCCESS Store and Amazon are stocked full of mentors waiting for you to gain their wisdom. Advocates Lastly, and maybe a new idea for you, is to build a board of advocates—a small group of people you can turn to who are enrolled into advocating for your life, your goals and your greater purpose. They are people you can reliably bounce ideas, inspirations and even frustrations off of to get feedback, coaching, renewed inspiration or even contacts or resources. Sit down today and make a target list of your board of advocates and then contact and recruit them onto your board. Important Tip You have to empower your ‘but’ kickers. Let them know you want them to give you a swift one if they catch you whining, griping or complaining. Also, the responsibility is on you to leverage your support team. They are not wandering around all day wondering how they can help you. YOU have to reach out. The burden of advocacy or mentorship falls on the mentee, not the mentor. You have to keep in touch, ask and follow through.
