Frequently asked question Friday! On Saturday. Because thats how I roll... Q: Why does my dog need to be on a leash? He doesnt like them. I can just carry her in. A: We require ALL dogs of any size to be on a properly fitted collar and leash for their safety and ours. The street in front of the shop is busy, and even the best trained dog could startle and run into traffic, or be approached by a dog they dont like. We sometimes need to take dogs out to potty and need a leash to do this safely. In case of an emergency in the shop such as a tornado or fire, we need to be able to grab the dogs quickly and move them safely. Some dogs get nervous when a strange face is reaching into a kennel to get them out and may bite or bolt. We need the leash to have something to grab and hold to prevent them from bolting out of a high cage and hurting themselves, or to coax them out if they are scared without getting bit. Unfixed males or nervous pups may decide to mark in the shop because they smell other dogs. Having them roam around the reception area while we talk to the owner allows them to mark on our property, which is not appreciated. People come and go on a constant basis, if your dog is not safely leashed by your side when the door opens, he may bolt out the door. So its very important to vets and groomers that you as a pet owner respect this rule. We care about your pets too and want them safe! Have a great weekend!
