Fresh Crisis Looms As Ife, Modakeke Renew Rivalry Over Farmland — October 20, 2014 Fresh communal crisis is imminent between the people of Ile Ife and Modakeke in Osun state over the alleged refusal of the former to allow the latter return to their farmland. It was gathered that the people of the area especially along Oyere road, Alapata, Amokegun and Oyolowa are taking up arms and blocked all the roads leading to the areas. It was further gathered that the people did not allow thorough fare of vehicles as they turned motorists plying the areas to Ore in Ondo State as well as shot into the air indiscriminately. It was also discovered that burn fire were made on the road leading to the area while the people of the two sides hid at nearby bush to watch the situation. The State Police Commissioner, Abubakar Marafa, speaking through the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Folasade Odoro (DSP) who confirmed the development said that anti riot policemen have been drafted to the area to maintain law and order adding that normalcy has return to the area. It would be recalled that in 1997 communal clash broke out between the Modakeke/Ife which claimed several lives and property worth several million of naira following the creation of Ife-East Local Government and the sitting of the new council’s headquarters. The communal clash lasted for about five years until the intervention of the Presidency under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, when the communal war temporarily subsided in 2001. The Modakekes who are predominantly farmers are yet to be allowed to return to their farmlands reportedly owned by the Ifes
