Frida Kahlo’s career as a painter was largely influenced by her serious health problems that were a result of a bus accident the artist suffered at a young age. Rivera soon recognized her potential and the two began a relationship that resulted into a marriage. Her paintings often portray herself in mystical symbolic situations and draw elements from the indigenous Mexican traditions.
