Friday 19th July – I don’t like to complain but hot weather - TopicsExpress

Friday 19th July – I don’t like to complain but hot weather isn’t really for me! And not really a good time to go sitting in the hairdresser’s salon! Anyway, “Madam Mayor” must look the part for her engagements this weekend so needs must! Afterwards I went along to the Senior Citizens’ Luncheon Club at Hippings Vale Community Centre, Harvey Street, Oswaldtwistle. This was an unofficial mayoral duty – I’d been intending going along for a while but had spoken to someone on their stall at Rhyddings Park last Sunday, which had jogged my memory. If you are in this age group like me I would encourage you to go along every Friday. For £4 you get a two-course home-cooked meal followed by tea or coffee and a few games of bingo – done with packs of cards – I hadn’t seen this version before. I think the best thing about going along to the Oswaldtwistle Luncheon Club is that you get the chance to chat to people and have a good laugh. You don’t need to live in Ossy – there were people there from Rishton and Clayton, possibly even Blackburn. If you’d like to go any time, ring Karl a few days before on 07938 953631. One of the residents was accompanied by an Occupational Therapist based at Accrington Victoria Hospital. We got talking and she said she would like to promote the Luncheon Club, helped by me as Mayor. We exchanged contact details and I promised to get in touch after my holiday. The rest of the day wasn’t spent sitting in the sun as I’d a lot of Council e-mails to deal with and am trying to get as straight as I can before I go away in a week’s time. I booked my airport taxi so it really does seem that my holiday isn’t far off now!
