Friday 6th September – A LATE QUARTET (2012 – 105 minutes) After 25 years, a successful New York-based string quartet is sent into turmoil when Peter, the oldest member is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and announces he plans to retire. His announcement proves to be the catalyst to bring hidden resentments amongst the other members to the surface. All this threatens to break the quartet apart, against a background of their signature piece, Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 14, opus 131. ‘A gem of a film’ superbly acted by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christopher Walken and Catherine Keener.
