Friday December 26, 2014 WHAT WOULD JESUS DO? About two decades ago a message which became a movement or a commitment became popular. Everybody wore WWJD (WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?) wristbands. People asked each other and popularized the question “WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?” with the acronym WWJD! You could trace this to John Wesley who in 1766 taught extensively on holiness and showed that the work of God in us will motivate us to love all around us making us more like Christ. Charles Sheldons 1896 book, In His Steps was subtitled What Would Jesus Do?” The book very deeply challenged Christians to live exactly like Jesus did. It depicted a poor man judging Christians for ignoring the poor. All through the book, Christians dealt with the hard question, “what would Jesus do if he was in this situation?” and concluded that what Jesus would do is what a Christian should do. In the 1990s, a youth group leader in Holland, Michigan, named Janie Tinklenberg, began a grass-roots movement to help the teenagers in her group remember the phrase. It spread nationwide in the 1990s among Christian youths, who wore bracelets bearing the initials W.W. J. D. Later, a sequel bracelet was generated with the initials FROG, to provide an answer to WWJD. “FROG” was an acronym for Fully Rely on God. To know what Jesus would do today, you need to know what Jesus did when He was on earth! At the end of that study you are likely to conclude that Jesus would FULLY RELY ON GOD – “FROG”! John 5:19-20 says “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do:for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.” Jesus was not stereotypical. You could not fully predict what He would do, but He fully relied on God and did what was best as led of God. Today, think about each situation and fully rely on God to guide you. Prayer Lord as I grow in my walk with You daily, use me as a vessel totally reliant on You in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
