Friday Evening Party with Friend….. Cloudy weather, cool breeze sitting in terrace of famous Bar & Restaurant with close friend after long time makes you to slip to your old memories…… Babu & me are very close friends, we worked together in one of the Famous Indian based organization in HR Team. Babu got very good offer from Hyderabad based company and relocated 3 years back ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Its 6:55 PM on Friday 14th June 2013 I was travelling back from office to home in 500C BMTC Volvo, sleep easily hugged me with her open arms. My phone started ringing. Lazily I saw my phone its new number on the display… I picked the call I heard hey how are you in rough voice, I was not able to recognize the voice and asked who’s this, He asked me to guess but I was not in a position to, finally requested him to tell me whose on the other side of the phone and finally Babu revealed his name. We decided to meet @ 9:00 Pm in Jayanagar 4th Block XXX BAR & Restaurant. I was waiting in front of XXX Bar and someone tapped me from back. It was Babu I was very happy to see him, both of us exchanged greetings and went inside XXX, unfortunately we were not able to vacant seats its full (Friday evening almost all bar’s will be occupied with Hard Workers/ Slaves). We saw a young guy (Mani) around 20’s looking at us, we asked are you from this XXX? Yes he replied, can we get 2 seats? He smiled and replied it’s difficult to get seat today. We requested him to arrange 2 seats and Babu paid him 100 bugs. After 10 minutes Mani came back to us and told sir if you are fine you can use terrace where Bar has provided accommodation to us (workers), without other choice we agreed. Mani asked us to follow him. We saw everywhere bottles, caps, cigarettes butts and cartoon boxes finally we were on terrace. Babu asked Mani to bring cigarettes, egg burji, Chicken and 3 Beer bottles and looked at me to order, I ordered 2 Breezers. We started talking about our previous work experience and started pulling each other’s legs. By that time Mani bought cigarettes. Babu started smoking cigarette by the time we got egg burji and Beer bottle Babu finished 6 cigarettes. Our order came and we started having our favorite drinks. Babu finished 2 bottles in 5 minutes, I was shocked to see that, asked him what made him drink so quickly. His voice was very low and started telling me about his office politics……. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… I report to Mr. Mxxxxa and he is localitie. He is very selfish guy, he always assigns all his work to me and never bothered to answer my queries. He behaves very innocent in front of VP (HR) and pretends like hard worker. All the time he keeps chatting with his Girlfriend and friends. He will be online in social networking sites from morning till evening and you can see his updates and shares in Facebook anytime. Mr. Mxxxxa is very clever, before attending meetings he takes all inputs from me and shares that in front of VP HR. He never sits with vendors to discuss about current openings but always blasts at vendors, blaming they don’t support current openings etc. . . Vendors are very disappointed because of his attitude and behaviour and they started neglecting our requirements and started sending profiles to other verticals. He Mr. Mxxxxa always asks female colleagues to come to his cabin and cracks Poor jokes….. He never asks girls to work on difficult tasks but only assigns me to work on that and forces me to stretch till 9:00 PM. When business asks to stop working on particular position he takes his own sweet time to update me. Mr. Mxxxxa previously worked with our VP in Chennai and they are from same community, our VP has soft corner about him. Mr. Mxxxxa has very soft corner to all my female colleagues. He asks me to look for few hotels nearby to our company new joiners and asks me to book travel tickets as well. Tells me to use my credit card for office purpose never bothered about reimbursement. Asks me to arrange cakes for Birthday parties and to look for good vendors for stationary and office equipment’s but later asks his contacts to supply the same. It’s a waste of effort. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Babu still had many more things…kept on talking…… I checked my watch and it was 10:45 PM, I got a call from my wife asking where are you, told my wife not to wait for me. By the time Babu ordered 2 more bottles and requested me to wait for another half an hour. Asked him to close ASAP and came down searching of loo. It was 11:10 by the time he finished. We paid the bill and came down, Babu was not in control and told me he will go to his friends room near BTM layout by Auto. I told him not to take risk and decided to drop him in my bike. With great difficulty we reached BTM layout and Room was locked…. He called few of his friends and all were in same condition and they were on their way back to room. After 20 to 30 minutes circus, finally I told good bye to Babu and left to home. I was driving back to home thinking of Babu and his Manager, few puzzles are still stuck in my mind a) Why do few Managers pretend in front of their superiors? b) Why do they act smart in front of bosses? c) Are they really selfish? d) Are they talented to take work from subordinates and take credit? e) Whom to blame for this office politics? f) How can they crack poor jokes in front of female colleagues? g) Do we really need social networking sites access to employees in office? h) How to survive in this kind of work environment? i) Why Managers do chamchagiri? j) Why Managers always favor chameleons? My mind was running like shatabadi express with so many unanswered questions, I reached my home @ 12:35 Am.
