Friday January 16, 2015 - PART TWO Today at 4:42pm the Northfield Police were advised that Winchester NH police cruisers were in pursuit of a Ford Ranger pick-up truck that was traveling south on Route 10. The vehicle was reported as traveling over 70 MPH. Northfield officers stopped northbound traffic on Route 10 at Maple Street. Three Northfield Officers were able to set up stop sticks at three locations on Main Street (Dickinson Library, the Town Hall and Maple Street). Two tires were successfully deflated with the stop sticks. The vehicle continued to travel to the intersection of Routes 10 & 63; the vehicle was unable to travel any further. The 44-year old female driver continued to try to press on the accelerator after the vehicle was stopped. The driver was taken into custody shortly thereafter. She was charged with OUI 3rd offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop for a police officer. She was booked at the Northfield PD and later transported to the Franklin County House of Correction. The Winchester PD will also be filing charges on the driver in New Hampshire. Motor vehicle pursuits are very dangerous. Because of the actions of Sgt. Richardson and Officer Paicos and their ability to successfully deploy stop sticks and keep oncoming traffic from harm’s way, this situation was handled without any injuries to anyone, including the driver.
