Friday, January 2: Im Having a Baby! Walking to my car after visiting a hospitalized church member, a young man in work clothes wearing a camo ball cap passed me. He reached a door ten paces ahead, stopped, and held it open. I thanked him, and we continued on in silence as once again he outpaced me as if he was on a mission. I assumed that he was in a hurry to get back to work. All of a sudden, once in the parking deck, he stopped and turned to face me. I was caught off guard, and slowed to assess my situation. What happened next was a total surprise. Im having a baby today! he blurted out. His eyes were wide open, and a smile lit up his face. Is this your first child? I asked. Yes! he replied. They are going to induce labor at 1:00 pm. I congratulated him, and we went our separate ways. As I walked, it dawned on me that I, too, would give birth this year. No, Bonnie and I are not having a baby. Each of us will, however, give birth to new ways of thinking and acting. If not, we are not growing and maturing. I have absolutely no way of knowing what will happen to me and to those I love in this new year; I believe that God will give me everything I need to face whatever comes, though. With this in mind, the new year is off to a positive start. This is my third year of writing these daily devotionals. I look forward to making this journey with you through 2015.
