Friday, July 18, 2014 Isaiah 38:1-6,21-22,7-8, Psalm (Isaiah 38:10-12,16), Matthew 12:1-8 PUT YOUR HOME IN ORDER Dear friends, today, our Lord Jesus and the prophet Isaiah tells us all to put our homes in order, for God will be visiting us very soon. Isaiah visited bedridden King Hezekiah and prophesied his death. Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord - Is 38:2. He wept bitterly - Is 38:3. In answer to Hezekiahs prayer, the Lord healed him and gave him fifteen more years to live - Is 38:5. The Lord even made the sun go backwards to confirm that he would heal Hezekiah - Is 38:8. Hezekiah did two outrageous things within these extra fifteen years. Foolishly and pridefully, he showed an ambassador from Babylon his treasury, the silver and gold, the spices and fine oil, his whole armory, and everything that was in his storerooms - Is 39:2. This resulted in the Babylonian exile and the destruction of Jerusalem. This began what eventually resulted in the Babylonian exile and the destruction of Jerusalem. He also fathered a son, Manasseh, and probably did a terrible job of parenting this child, for the son grew up to do greater evil than all that was done by the Amorites before him - 2 Kgs 21:11. In the gospel, Jesus is closing in the grain fields of our lives, to pick the fruits of sanctity. Will he find mercy, charity, love of God and fellow man? Dear friends, put your home in order, flee from sins, and pray the Lord to make you know the shortness of your life, that you may gain wisdom of heart. - Psalm 90:12. Have a lovely weekend. Peace !!
