Friday, March 14, 2014 TOPIC: A GROWING CHRISTIAN Text: “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ…” (2Peter 3:18) Parents are joyful when they see their children growing well physically, mentally and emotionally. A child with stunted growth causes great concern in the family. The same applies in the spiritual. From 1John 2:12-14, we can assume that there are three stages of Christian growth: children, young men and fathers. The children are young converts whose sins are forgiven and know the father; the young men have become disciples who are strong and have overcome the wicked one, while the fathers are the elders in the Church whose knowledge of God has grown and are stable in the faith. If you are not growing from the first to the last stage, then you are undeveloped spiritually. The young converts and the young disciples need the sincere milk of the Word of God, personal prayers, and fellowship to keep growing. The Christian young man who is not growing manifests carnal mind-sets such as stubbornness, lie telling, lack of interest in fellowship and service to God, worry, and such a person can easily fall into temptations. Stand before the mirror of God’s Word, what do you see? Challenge: Christians grow when they are in the Word of God. Prayer: Oh God, I want to grow. Further Reading: Luke 2:40-52
